Working with Agentic AI: DevOps Engineer

How Human Skills and Agentic Skills Dynamically Combine Across DevOps Engineering Responsibilities

1.1. DevOps Engineering as Professional Work

A DevOps engineer supports the reliable, efficient, secure, and repeatable development, delivery, deployment, operation, and improvement of software applications and their supporting infrastructure. The role connects software development, infrastructure, platform engineering, cloud services, automation, deployment processes, observability, and operational support so that engineering teams can move software changes from development into production with greater consistency and control. Responsibilities can include designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automating infrastructure provisioning, managing cloud and container environments, supporting application deployments, administering configuration and runtime environments, developing scripts and automation, monitoring system health, troubleshooting application and infrastructure problems, improving reliability and scalability, supporting developers, managing technical changes, contributing to security practices, documenting operational processes, evaluating technologies, and improving development and operational workflows. The DevOps engineer therefore works across application code, infrastructure, deployment systems, runtime platforms, operational telemetry, engineering tools, and development teams rather than treating software delivery and production operations as separate activities.
